Being Inspired

Inspiration can come from may different places. Some of us are inspired by people around us by their words and actions. Some of us are inspired by the good things, to carry it forward. Some of us are inspired by negativity and evil, to find some way to right the wrong.

Being such an avid reader, I tend to find inspiration from the books that I read. It can be as simple as training my dog to be a therapy dog (Thanks to Laura Child's character of Theodosia Browning)

Some people claim that it's not an original idea, or it's not thinking on my own. I believe that it's simply opening our horizons and thoughts. Yes it did take something like a book or movie to give me an idea. But all ideas are born from seeds that are implanted into our subconcious. It's what we do with them that really matters.

Do unto others

Last night after we got out of our EMT-Basic class it was discoverd that three of the cars in the parking lot had been broken into. One car on one side of us had their driver side window smashed (fortunately nothing was taken from the car). The car on the other side of us had the rear passenger side window smashed (with the only thing taken was a cell phone. There was a truck parked behind us a few rows that was also broken into that had the entire radio console removed.

After we all called the cops and stood around in the cold talking about the insanity and randomness of the act, everyone left to go home. It was 10 o'clock on a thursday night after all. But seeing the mess that was left for the 3 of the victims to clean up before they could even leave, on top of waiting for the cops, we decided to stick around and help.

I didn't mind helping or staying that late. What bothered me was that we were the only ones. I understand everyone else just wanted to get home to their families and that some of them probably had to wake up early this morning. So did we. So why were we the only ones who stayed to help? We've both had this happen to us before, and I would like to think that if this happened to me again someone who wasn't a complete stranger (we've been in class for 2 months now) would stay to help me. Now i'm not sure.

I've been thinking about it all morning. Is it the assumption that someone else will help? I don't believe it's not caring. I'm just not sure what it is.
